OVERVIEW
Ritz Attorneys at Law (the Firm) has two (2) vacancies in its Disputes Settlement Practice and one (1) in its International [Commercial and Corporate] Transactions Practice. The Firm seeks highly talented lawyers to join as Associates (the Positions).
1. Role overview
The Positions involve working on a variety of litigation, arbitration, and transactional instructions, including assisting Senior Partners on large, complex assignments. Ideal candidates must be team-oriented, with material strength in legal research, drafting, and advocacy; ability to manage complex disputes and/or transactions independently or with minimum supervision; excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills; high level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail; and the ability to work effectively under pressure and strict deadlines.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
These include but are not limited to conducting dispute settlement matters before courts, tribunals, and other adjudicatory bodies; drafting legal documents with high degree of skill; providing sound legal advice to clients in disputes and transactions; undertaking detailed legal research and analysis involving complex legal and factual issues; assisting the Firm’s international clients with transactional and advisory services, regulatory compliance, legislative and commercial drafting, and negotiation; and liaising with clients, counsel, court officials, and other stakeholders professionally and efficiently.
Minimum requirements for Applicants
REQUIREMENTS
3.1. The ideal candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:
- 3.1.1. Bachelor of Laws Degree with a minimum classification of 2:1 or its academic equivalent;
- 3.1.2. Admission to the Malawi Bar with at least four (4) years’ post-admission experience in a busy law firm in or outside Malawi;
- 3.1.3. A valid practicing license;
- 3.1.4. Demonstrable experience in dispute settlement (especially litigation and arbitration) and transactions advisory services;
Master’s Degree in Law will be an added advantage; and
Professional qualifications or training in arbitration or other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) will be an added advantage.
