Nkhoma University is an institution of higher learning accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The University has three campuses; two at Nkhoma, 15km off Kamphata Trading Centre, and one at Chigoneka in Area 47. Lecturer Geography (GIS) Master’s degree
Job Title: Lecturer - Geography (GIS)
Reports To: Head of Humanities/Social Sciences Department
Job Purpose:
To deliver instruction in Physical and Human Geography with a strong emphasis on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The lecturer will develop students' technical skills in spatial analysis and cartography for use in environmental management, urban planning, and disaster risk reduction.
Key Responsibilities:
- GIS Instruction: Teach practical courses on GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing, and spatial data management.
- Theoretical Teaching: Cover core geography topics such as climatology, geomorphology, population dynamics, and land use.
- Field Work: Organize and supervise field trips for data collection and practical mapping exercises.
- Project Supervision: Guide students in research projects that utilize GIS for solving local environmental or social issues.
- Lab Maintenance: Maintain the GIS laboratory, ensuring hardware and software are functional and up-to-date.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Master’s degree in Geography, Geoinformatics, or a related field.
- Experience: Practical experience using GIS in a professional or research capacity.
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in GIS software and spatial analysis.
- Knowledge of drone technology or GPS surveying is an advantage.
- Fieldwork safety management.
- Teach practical courses on GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing, and spatial data management.
