GEMIRA TRADING is looking for an Accounting Assistant to perform daily accounting tasks that will support our financial team.
Accounting Assistant responsibilities include preparing statutory accounts, entering financial transactions into our internal databases and reconciling invoices and daily sales. Ultimately, this person will help our Accounting Department run smoothly, ensuring transparency and efficiency in all transactions.
Accounts Assistant Work Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining the computerized accounting system and ensuring timely posting of financial transactions.
- Ensuring appropriate inventory management in a system, filing, cashbooks management, cheque dispatch register, advances register, account receivable/payable registers, fixed assets register, petty cash register, General Ledger etc. and ensuring filing of payment vouchers and other financial records are done daily, accurately and in an organized manner.
- Preparing and checking completeness of payment vouchers including reviewing/checking of payment supporting documents for accuracy of any computations and calculations and correct coding.
- Preparation of monthly bank reconciliation statements for operating and holding bank accounts by the 5th day of each month.
- Provision of inputs required for the preparation of monthly management accounts.

- Extremely organized in a manner that is easily read by others.
- Trustworthy and discreet when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform in a computerized work environment.
- Familiarity with financial regulations.
- Good math skills and ability to spot numerical errors.
- Organization skills.
Experience and Academic Qualifications Requirements
The person should have:
- A Diploma in Accounting/Finance from a reputable University recognized by NCHE.
- Two to three years’ experience in a similar position from a reputable company.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks).
- Computer skills in Microsoft Word Processing, Spreadsheet (Excel), Power Point, Publisher and also knowledgeable in Internet/Email.
- Fluent in English and Chichewa.
