OVERVIEW

A private company in Lilongwe is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Accountant.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing reports, supporting financial controls, and ensuring accurate accounting operations in line with company policies and statutory requirements.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining accurate financial records and bookkeeping.
  • Recording daily workshop sales, service income, and expenses.
  • Preparing invoices, receipts, and payment vouchers.
  • Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Reconciling bank statements and cash transactions.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Monitoring inventory records for spare parts and workshop materials in collaboration with the stores department.
  • Processing employee payroll and statutory deductions.
  • Preparing and submitting tax returns.
  • Developing and monitoring budgets and cash flow.
  • Maintaining fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
  • Assisting with financial audits and providing supporting documentation.
  • Advising management on financial performance and cost-control measures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution recognized by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in finance and accounting.
  • Membership with ICAM.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Good knowledge of financial management and accounting practices.
  • Working knowledge of accounting packages such as Accpac and SAGE.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, and Access.
  • High level of integrity and honesty.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Good negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent planning and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
