Position Summary

Title: Accounts Assistant

Location: Lilongwe, Malawi

Reports to: Finance Manager

Employment type: Full-time

You will work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure accurate financial records, timely regulatory compliance, smooth payment processing, and reliable office operations, all critical to sustaining trust with our partners and clients.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Operations

  • Perform month-end account reconciliations (bank statements, accounts receivable, accruals, A1 revenue reports).
  • Handle returns filing and maintain the company cashbook.
  • Record and file cash transactions; process cash & cheque deposits.
  • Prepare payment vouchers and cheques.

2. Planning, Regulatory & Reporting

  • Produce timely financial reports for management, regulatory bodies, and tax authorities.
  • Manage all regulatory filings with the Insurance Regulator (e.g., annual reports, licence renewals)
  • Monitor and communicate updates to the regulatory framework that may impact company operations.

3. Payments & Supplier Management

  • Arrange timely payments to suppliers for approved goods/services upon receipt of valid invoices/statements.
  • Produce accurate and prompt expense reports.

4. Office & Asset Administration

  • Maintain the Logistics Management Log and vendor contact lists to ensure operational infrastructure remains functional (planned and unplanned needs).
  • Coordinate with third-party providers (internet, telephone, utilities, office supplies) for reliable service delivery.
  • Keep an accurate, up-to-date register of all company assets.

What We Are Looking For

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma in Accounting (equivalent qualification).
  • Professional accounting/finance designation (or actively studying towards one)
  • Minimum 2-3 years hands-on experience in a busy accounts/finance function (those with experience the insurance sector will have an added advantage).
  • Proven working knowledge of QuickBooks (essential)
  • Strong general computer literacy (MS Office suite)

  • Fluent in English and Chichewa (spoken and written)
  • High personal integrity and strong ethical standards
  • Meticulous attention to detail combined with good speed of execution
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet strict deadlines
