About the Organisation
Affordable Solar for Villagers (AS4V) is a social enterprise committed to expanding access to clean energy solutions for rural communities in Malawi. AS4V is a key partner in the Solar Ku Midzi collaboration, alongside Kachione LLC, Solar 4 Africa, and R&C Devices.
Through this partnership, AS4V has received funding to implement an innovative Agro-Ecology Pilot Project aimed at integrating solar-powered irrigation with sustainable organic farming practices.
Project Overview
The Agro-Ecology Pilot Project will be implemented across 15 women-led solar shops operating in 10 districts in Malawi. The project seeks to promote climate-smart agriculture by combining solar irrigation technologies with agro-ecological farming methods to improve productivity, soil health, and livelihoods.
Position Summary
AS4V is seeking to recruit two (2) qualified female Agro-Ecology Project Coordinators to lead the implementation of this pilot project.
The Coordinators will be responsible for training farmers—particularly solar pump users—on agro-ecological practices, supporting farmer registration, and coordinating activities at community level in collaboration with Agricultural Extension Officers and women-led solar shops.
Key Responsibilities
- Train farmers using solar irrigation systems in agro-ecological and organic farming practices. Emphasis will be on women’s groups sharing hand-carried solar pump systems (panel, hose and pump).
- Mobilize and register farmers into the pilot project across the targeted districts
- Work closely with Agricultural Extension Officers and women shop operators to coordinate field activities
- Provide technical support and follow-up to participating farmers
- Monitor and document project progress, outcomes, and lessons learned
- Support data collection, reporting, and evaluation of project activities
- Promote integration of solar-powered irrigation with sustainable farming systems
- Dry Season Data Collection: create and distribute a Logbook of Inputs and Harvest details for Farmers selected to participate in pilot demonstration dry farming
- Post-Dry Season Data Analysis: gather Logbooks, follow-up Interviews, assemble data and write report
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Agro-Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in agro-ecology or sustainable agriculture projects
- Proven experience in community mobilization and farmer training
- Strong understanding of climate-smart agriculture and organic farming principles
- Experience working with rural communities and extension systems
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills
- Willingness to travel extensively across project districts
- Fluency in English and Chichewa required. Fluency in Chiyao and other Malawian languages a plus.
Contract Details
Start Dates & Durations:
- 2026 Dry Season: starts 18 May or 1 June, 2026. 20 week duration (two 10 week contracts)
- 2027 Post-dry Season Analysis: starts 1 January 2027. 10 week duration
Contracts of 10 week duration will be renewed based on performance and funding availability
