The Organisation

The Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament No. 2 of 2015, with the dual mandate of providing loans and grants to the needy and deserving students in all accredited institutions of higher learning in Malawi and recovering all matured loans from former loan beneficiaries. The Board is serviced by a Secretariat headed by the Executive Director as the Controlling Officer. Vacancies have arisen for positions of Finance and Investments Manager in the Directorate of Finance and Investments and Assistant Civic Education Officer in the Communications Division. HELGB is therefore, looking for suitable candidates to fill these vacant positions as detailed below:

Job Summary

Assist in delivering innovative civic mobilization and marketing campaigns in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and generate strategies that grow market share and HELGB brand’s reputation, learn from and improve customer experience and drive growth and enhancing corporate branding of HESLGB.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in following-up on administrative and logistical arrangements to organize press briefings and other events, such as workshop and conferences.
  • Assist in production of information materials for public awareness campaigns and for the preparation of in-house bulletins, newsletters and information kits by contributing to articles, reports and other information gathered from various sources
  • Liaise with printers concerning brochures and publications published by the office.
  • Assist in drafting routine correspondence and texts for the office’s website and maintain information databases.
  • Assist in compile and distribute a daily news clipping service.
  • Distribute press statements and similar information to media, to other offices locally as well as to Headquarters.
  • Maintain up-to-date filing system and appointments diary.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Person Specification and Qualification

The ideal candidate for the position of Assistant Civic Education Officer must have:

  • A Diploma in communication/political science/ Journalism or business administration from a University recognized by NCHE;
  • At least 2 years proven experience in a similar role;
  • Ability to communicate with confident a variety of topics to different audiences;
  • Should have excellent Judgement;
  • Should possess strong intuition.
