Job Purpose

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in the effective day-to-day management of store operations by ensuring efficient store performance, effective staff supervision, sound inventory control, excellent customer service, and compliance with company policies and procedures. The role contributes to achieving sales, profitability, and operational objectives while maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the achievement of sales, gross profit, and operational performance targets.
  • Supervise daily store operations, ensuring the store is clean, well-merchandised, adequately stocked, and appropriately staffed.
  • Coordinate inventory management, including stock ordering, receiving, storage, replenishment, stock counts, and inventory reconciliation while minimizing stock losses and wastage.
  • Verify deliveries, inspect goods received, complete Goods Received Receipts (GRRs), and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Supervise cash handling, till controls, banking, and compliance with Point-of-Sale (POS) procedures.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by resolving customer complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Supervise, coach, motivate, and develop staff to promote teamwork, accountability, and high performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, operational procedures, health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and security controls.
  • Prepare accurate operational reports and maintain all required store documentation.
  • Act for the Store Manager during periods of absence to ensure uninterrupted store operations.

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration / Management, Retail Management, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Candidates with a Diploma in a business-related field and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant retail supervisory experience may also be considered.
