Background
Evidence Action’s Safe Water Now (SWN) program provides safe drinking water to over 10 million people across rural Uganda, Malawi, and Kenya. Recent evidence highlights that water treatment reduces all-cause child mortality by about 25%. Evidence Action’s designs deliver safe water at the source in rural settings through its established Dispensers for Safe Water (DSW) and newly launched In-Line Chlorination (ILC) interventions. Over the past year, we’ve more than doubled our footprint in East and Southern Africa and are exploring expansion into new countries, as well as developing an innovation agenda through our Accelerator process to develop the next generation of safe water programs. With over 70 field-based staff, the program would like to strengthen its supervisory team to ensure quality programing. The Role
The Associate coordinator position is a key field management role for the Safe Water Program (SWN). An Associate Coordinator is part of the SW program management team and plays an important role in leading program implementation at the field level. The Associate Area Coordinator (AAC) leads field teams to deliver various activities and outputs of SWN to communities served by the program. AAC reports to Area Coordinator with OPIs as direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Conduct stakeholder meetings at district, county, and/or sub county levels to ensure buy-in of local stakeholders into the SWN program
- Manage a team of Officers, Program Implementation (OPIs) and CSAs through supervision, mentorship & coaching to deliver high quality community engagements
- Lead the field teams in the execution of SWN activities such as Safe Water Device installations, reinstallations, chlorine delivery and device maintenances among others
- Manage field finance expenses prudently with proper accountability and transparency, in line with the finance policy
- Develop weekly work plans, budgets and reports for field activities and ensure execution of the planned activities, in line with agreed upon targets
- Support field teams on field data administration for various activities through smart phone technology
- Ensure high adoption of SWN in assigned locations through managing all the drivers of adoption, which include community knowledge, device functionality, promoter engagement, and non-empty rates
- Take delegated responsibilities in logistical and field operation planning, supervision and reporting
- Other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the Area Coordinator
- Compilation and submission of quality field reports, minutes, activity reports, weekly and monthly reports
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, International development or equivalent.
- Diploma holder with extensive experience in WASH program implementation will be considered
- Fluency in English and local language spoken in the operational location, both spoken and written
- 2 years of experience in management of community-development project activities with an NGO, community-based organization or social enterprise
Position Location
The role will be based in Liwonde and Mangochi .
