NICO Technologies has a vacancy for a Business Intelligence Officer, tenable at its Head Office in Blantyre. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the full data lifecycle—from collecting and integrating data to modelling, analysing, and visualising it—to enable informed decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent’s key responsibilities shall, amongst others, include:

• Manage data collection, wrangling, and integration across internal and external sources to support reliable, accurate, and consistent business intelligence outputs.
• Query, manipulate, and profile data using SQL to support reporting, analytics, and business insights.
• Develop, enhance, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using approved BI tools.
• Build and maintain Python scripts for ETL processes, automation, and quality validation workflows.
• Collaborate with departments to understand their data needs and translate them into analytical outputs.
• Document data models, KPIs, business rules, and reporting logic to support clarity, transparency, and continuity.
• Support data quality management by implementing automated validation rules, profiling data, and contributing to data-cleaning and standardization efforts.
• Own and maintain codebases, data models, and documentation, enforcing version control standards and enabling collaboration through Git-based platforms such as GitHub.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree (or final-year student) in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Economics, or a related field.
• Certification in Business Intelligence, Data Science, Data Analytics, or a related field is highly desirable.
• At least 2 years’ hands-on experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field involving data collection, analysis, and communicating insights.
• Strong proficiency in SQL for querying, transforming, and analysing data stored in relational databases.
• Practical experience using Python for data orchestration (Airflow/Luigi), data manipulation (Pandas), statistical analysis, and automation.
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Superset, Grafana, or similar BI platforms.
• Familiarity with data modelling concepts, including building logical models.
