JOB PURPOSE:

The Chemical Technician will support uranium processing operations by conducting laboratory analyses, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental and quality regulations. This role is critical in first line maintenance, monitoring chemical processes, analysing samples, and maintaining accurate records to ensure the safe and efficient production of uranium.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Sample Analysis:

  • Prepare samples from various stages of uranium processing.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses using techniques such as Fusion, titration, spectroscopy, XRF and ICP-OES and other instruments.
  • Analyse uranium concentration, impurities, and other relevant parameters.
  • Analyse potable water and Environmental samples.

2. Process Monitoring:

  • Monitor chemical reactions and report deviations from expected results.
  • Assist in troubleshooting process issues by providing analytical data.

3. Equipment Maintenance:

  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure proper functioning of analytical tools such as ICP-OES, XRF, and pH meters and other instruments.

4. Safety and Radiation:

  • Follow strict safety protocols for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and radiation safety regulations.
  • Participate in safety drills and training sessions.

5. Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory tests and results.
  • Prepare reports for internal use and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in quality control and assurance documentation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree/Diploma in Chemical engineering, Chemistry, Applied science or any relevant qualifications from recognized institution.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in the laboratory.
