Job Summary:

The Civil Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of building structures and infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, bridges, dams, airports, and water systems). The role ensures that projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the required quality standards while adhering to local regulations and design specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Planning:

  • Analyze survey reports, maps, and other data to plan projects.
  • Use CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) to create detailed designs and technical drawings.
  • Perform calculations for material quantities, load factors, and stress tests.

Project Execution:

  • Manage and supervise construction sites, coordinating with site managers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with project specifications, schedules, and budgets.
  • Interpret construction drawings and provide technical advice to the workforce.

Quality & Safety:

  • Implement and enforce strict Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure safety regulations (OSHA/MOHRE) are followed.
  • Investigate and resolve structural defects or construction failures.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Liaise with clients, architects, and government authorities for permits and approvals.
  • Prepare progress reports and present technical data to senior management.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate project records, including daily logs, inspection reports, and material testing results.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

Certification:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent (e.g., Chartered Engineer status) is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in large-scale construction projects.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS).
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials and methods.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Project completion within planned schedule (time variance).
  • Adherence to project budget (cost variance).
  • Zero critical safety incidents on site.
  • Quality test pass rate (%).
