CLINICAL ASSOCIATE -Pediatrics (1)

Reporting to: Medical Officer in Charge Location: Zomba

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Taking detailed histories, conducting thorough medical examinations, and diagnosing a wide range of diseases affecting the young.
  • Monitoring developmental disorders and referring to specialists as appropriate.
  • Developing and managing individualized pediatric patient treatment plans, and/or recommending specific therapies.
  • Performing or assisting with clinical procedures such as venepuncture, lumbar punctures etc competently.
  • Recording vital signs and tracking developmental milestones, including height, weight, and head circumference for infants and toddlers.
  • Responding to medical emergencies and resuscitations and providing overnight coverage.
  • Working closely with nurses, therapists, and specialists to ensure integrated care and attending regular patient rounds and case conferences.
  • Counseling parents and guardians on preventive healthcare, nutrition, vaccinations, and long-term management of chronic conditions.
  • Identifying when specialised care is needed and coordinating referrals to appropriate specialists and seeking feedback.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR), including clinical progress notes and discharge summaries.
  • Adhering to infection control guidelines and ensure all patient care is delivered with the highest degree of professionalism.

Educational qualifications experience and attributes

  • Bachelors of Science in Pediatrics and Child Health.
  • Three years practical experience in a busy hospital.
  • Proven competencies working in clinical care skills and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High level of work organization, self-motivation, driving for performance improvement, and flexibility in approach and attitude.
  • Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi and in good standing.
