Responsibilities or duties

General Outpatient

  • Conduct thorough medical assessments, examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions in line with MSTG.
  • Ordering and Interpreting laboratory results
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, and monitor patient progress while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Perform minor medical and surgical interventions.
  • Provide medical advice to patients and families, explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive measures.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate medical records, registers, and monthly performance reports.

Maternal and Child Health

  • Providing counselling and education to mothers and families on antenatal care, Labour and delivery, post-natal care, breastfeeding, and newborn health
  • Conducting safe and skilled vaginal deliveries
  • Monitoring mothers and newborns during labour, delivery, and the immediate post-partum period.
  • Assisting the Obstetrician/Gynecologist in performing minor and major Gynae and obstetric procedures including Caesarean Sections.
  • Collaborating with midwives and nurses to maintain high standards of maternal and child health care.
  • Ensure implementation of infection prevention policies and guidelines for both general and maternity care.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team for appropriate treatment and referrals for both General Outpatient and Maternity cases.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) and MS Office.
  • Commitment to patient-centred care, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Clinical Medicine from an accredited institution.
  • Valid license with the Medical Council of Malawi and proof of current registration.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in General Clinical Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Maternal and Child health.
