ABOUT
Tilitonse Community Centre is a faith-based community hub in Blantyre Rural, Malawi, operated under Fisherman’s Rest Community Projects (FRCP) — a registered NGO with nearly 30 years of service to local communities. We provide children’s programmes, adult literacy classes, and values-based activities rooted in Christian principles. Purpose of the Role
The Community Action Officer will support the management and facilitate the day-to-day activities of Tilitonse Community Centre. The successful candidate will provide a safe and engaging environment for children, facilitate structured adult literacy classes (including English), integrate Bible-based values into children’s activities, and capture community impact through success stories and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, supervise and deliver safe, engaging children’s programmes on a daily basis
- Facilitate structured adult literacy classes, with a particular focus on English language learning
- Teach Bible stories and integrate faith-based values and moral guidance into children’s activities
- Document and submit success stories and reports that capture community impact
- Maintain an organised, well-run environment that prioritises child welfare and safeguarding
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and the wider community
- Support overall programme planning and contribute to the growth of Tilitonse’s impact
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma in Early Childhood Development, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field
- Strong written and spoken English
- Report writing and storytelling skills
- Teaching and facilitation experience with children
- Comfortable and confident teaching Bible stories
Experience & Character
- Minimum 3 years working with children in educational or community settings
- Empathetic, patient, approachable, resilient and adaptable
- Values-driven with integrity, accountability and commitment to child development
- Positive, proactive, and able to work independently
- Passionate about community development
Essential Requirements
- Must be Christian and comfortable integrating Bible stories and moral guidance into activities
- Based in Blantyre and settled locally
- Demonstrated experience working with children (minimum 3 years)
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
- Reliable, organised, and committed to working in a community setting
