The Community Mobilisers will lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of community engagement and mobilisation activities under the FINILOOP Project. The role is responsible for building strong relationships with communities, local leaders, schools, waste pickers, businesses, and other stakeholders to promote participation in plastic waste management and recycling initiatives. The Officer will coordinate awareness campaigns, support behaviour change interventions and ensure effective community participation in project activities aimed at strengthening plastic waste value chains, improving livelihoods, and promoting a circular economy. The position also involves monitoring field activities, documenting progress and lessons learned, and supporting partnerships that enhance the achievement of project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement community mobilisation and engagement activities under the FINILOOP Project.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with community leaders, local authorities, schools, industries, waste pickers, and other key stakeholders.
- Lead public awareness and behaviour change initiatives focused on plastic waste separation, recycling, environmental sanitation, and circular economy practices.
- Organise and facilitate community meetings, training sessions, sensitisation campaigns, and stakeholder engagement events.
- Promote and support households and businesses in adopting waste separation at source and enhancing plastic waste recovery.
- Collaborate with schools to design and implement circular economy competitions and educational programmes.
- Collect field data, success stories, lessons learned, and community feedback to support project monitoring and reporting.
- Facilitate the training of Informal Waste Pickers located at the dumpsite and in streets
- Prepare activity reports, work plans, and progress updates.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in community mobilisation, stakeholder engagement, or implementation of community-based projects.
- Experience working with communities, local authorities, schools, youth groups, or informal sector actors will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge and understanding of waste management, recycling, environmental sustainability, or circular economy initiatives is desirable.
