2. JOB PURPOSE
Provide strategic leadership in finance, HR, compliance, and administration to ensure sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and adherence to local and international standards. The role is both operational and strategic, driving corporate governance, organizational effectiveness, and risk management across WASSHA Malawi.
3. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
A) Managerial Responsibilities:
To manage the Accounting department
To manage the HR & Administration department
B) Functional Responsibilities:
Tax & Accounting
Ensure the timely preparation and execution of the monthly financial close process while paying special attention to accuracy and WASSHA group timelines. The financial close process includes the financial statements such as the Income statement, Statement of financial position (Balance Sheet), cash flow and any other that may be required.
Ensure statutory obligations (such as NSSF, PAYE, VAT, WHT, LST) are filed by the accountant in a timely manner to ensure there are no penalties.
Ensure the timely approval and follow through on all payments raised (such as Jobcan), including the communication with the banks
Liaise with the WASSHA Group tax and accounting group where necessary.
Instruct and manage the Tax and Accounting department.
Lead preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
Ensure compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and group reporting standards.
Implement strong internal controls, fraud detection systems, and risk management policies to safeguard company resources.
Ensure compliance with all external audit requirements and lead audit closure within agreed timelines.
Create a workflow and ensure the smooth flow of accounting. This will include usage of software such as QuickBooks for bookkeeping and Jobcan for payment applications.
Monitor the necessity and ensure the timely approval and follow through on all
Coordinate with Auditors, Bankers, Lawyers and any other external parties and align strategies with the General Manager and Head Quarters.
HR
Understand the company strategy and build the human resource plan with the General Manager.
Liaise with department heads to identify human resource gaps and actively propose and communicate to the General Manager.
Manage the recruitment process to ensure a smooth and fair procedure as per the company policies, as well as recruiting capable people who matches the job description and maintain the retention rate.
Manage the employee evaluation process and build a career paths for each staff to maximize their potential in tandem with the company growth and strategy.
Coordinate with the WASSHA group HR strategy in order to implement and align with the General Manager.
Drive succession planning and talent pipeline management to ensure leadership continuity.
Foster a culture of inclusion, engagement, and adherence to WASSHA values.
Instruct and manage the HR & Admin department on all HR & Admin related functions.
Actively be sensitive for any compliance related issues (such as harassment) which may arise.
General Role
Corporate manager will implement preventive and pre-emptive measures and procedures in order to ensure the safety of the physical and mental working environment for all of the company’s employees.
The physical working environment includes but is not limited to ensuring work place safety both in office and in the field.
The mental working environment includes but is not limited to creating a positive environment and ensuring compliance by the company and its employees.
The Corporate Manager will work across the organization with those even not in their direct report such as the Operational Manager and Leaders, in order to maintain good communication.
Establish and train teams where necessary, and train all employees for specific workflows and procedures when required.
Responsible for developing and enforcing finance, HR, and compliance policies.
Admin
Manage legal risks of the company, and be compliant with the Company Law in Malawi.
Manage office supplies and a smooth operations of the office and the company.
Manage any logistics of employees and the office where necessary.
4. MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
A) Minimum level of academic and professional qualification required to perform effectively in the role:
Bachelors in Accounting and Finance or related field (MBA is an added advantage)
● CPA/ACCA full member
B) Minimum level of experience required to perform effectively in the role:
At least 7 years of experience, with more than 3 years as an accounting manager or above in a business company
