JOB SUMMARY

To originate, assess, monitor, and recover loans in line with institutional credit policies and procedures, ensuring portfolio quality, timely repayments, and excellent customer service while supporting sustainable business growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Loan Origination

  • Market and sell loan products to prospective and existing customers in line with approved credit policies.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard eligible customers through accurate loan application and documentation processes.
  • Conduct customer interviews and site visits to gather relevant financial and non-financial information.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of loan application documentation before submission for approval.

Credit Assessment & Appraisal

  • Perform thorough credit analysis, including assessment of customer capacity, character, collateral (where applicable), and conditions.
  • Analyse customer financial statements, cash flows, and repayment ability.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit appraisal reports with clear recommendations in line with delegated authority levels.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Loan Monitoring

  • Monitor loan performance to ensure timely repayments and early identification of potential problem accounts.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups, customer visits, and reviews of loan utilization.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date loan records and monitoring reports.
  • Identify early warning signs and recommend corrective actions to prevent delinquency.

Collections & Recovery

  • Follow up on overdue loans through calls, visits, and written notices in accordance with collections procedures.
  • Negotiate repayment plans with delinquent customers and ensure adherence to agreed terms.
  • Escalate non-performing loans in line with policy and recommend appropriate recovery actions.
  • Participate in recovery efforts, including restructuring, legal action, or realization of collateral where applicable.

Customer Service & Relationship Management

  • Provide excellent customer service throughout the loan lifecycle, from application to closure.
  • Educate customers on loan terms, repayment schedules, and consequences of default.
  • Resolve customer inquiries and complaints related to credit products promptly and professionally.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to credit risk, KYC, AML/CFT standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain portfolio quality within approved delinquency and write-off targets.
  • Participate in internal audits, supervision reviews, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Report credit risks, fraud suspicions, and operational issues to the supervisor.

Reporting

Prepare and submit accurate loan performance, arrears, and collections reports within agreed timelines.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • At least two (2) years experience in credit, lending, or loan administration (microfinance/banking experience is an added advantage).
  • Strong analytical and credit appraisal skills.
  • Good understanding of loan products, credit risk, and collections processes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and core banking systems.
