The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited (ESCOM) Limited is incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Malawi. Its core business is to procure, transmit and distribute electric power in Malawi as well as manage System Market Operations and Single Buyer in Malawi.

ESCOM Limited is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant Executive Management position:

Position: 1

Grade: ES3

Location: ESCOM Head Office – Blantyre

Directorate: Transmission

Reporting To: Chief Operations Officer (COO)

Purpose of the Job

To effectively plan, organize, direct, control and manage the Transmission Licensee, as a Strategic Business Unit (SBU), with complete responsibility over core activities of construction, operation and maintenance of the transmission network ensuring system reliability, quality service and cost-effective management of resources in the Transmission Directorate of the Corporation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Transmission shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Preparing Strategic Business Plans and budgets for the Transmission Directorate.
  • Ensuring that the Operations and Maintenance of the Transmission system and network and associated ancillary equipment are properly managed, with emphasis on quality and reliability of supply.
  • Continuously monitoring progress of each sub-division and Department and taking corrective action or introducing adjustments or alternatives to strategy implementation as dictated by available resources.
  • Preparing workplans for the Directorate that are derived from the Corporation’s business plans.
  • Formulating policies, technical or otherwise relating to the Transmission operation and maintenance functions.
  • Ensuring timely preparation of the operational and capital budgets.
  • Delivery of total value chain of the SBU with more customer focus, which will bring high degree of customer satisfaction and high employee morale.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Energy, or Energy Engineering and a Master’s degree in any of the above technical fields or Business Administration or Strategic Management from a recognized and accredited university.
  • Must be a registered member of the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI).
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in the field or industry, including at least five (5) years at a senior management level or higher.
  • Applicants with experience in the power supply industry will have an added advantage.

APPOINTMENT AND REMUNERATION

The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance-related contract for a period of three (3) years subject to renewal on satisfactory performance.

  • Ensuring that the Operations and Maintenance of the Transmission system and network and associated ancillary equipment are properly managed, with emphasis on quality and reliability of supply.
