Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (AERA) is seeking a Dosimetry and Instrumentation Technician – Grade AE5. This role is responsible for implementing dosimetry and instrumentation services.
Responsibilities or duties
Key Roles and Responsibilities include:
- Maintain, calibrate, and test radiation detection and measurement instruments.
- Record, analyse, and interpret dosimetry data and prepare periodic exposure reports.
- Identify faults in instruments and coordinate repairs or servicing.
- Monitor occupational radiation exposure using personal dosimeters (e.g., TLDs, film badges, electronic dosimeters).
- Provide technical support and basic training to staff on the use of radiation monitoring equipment.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and maintain inventory records of radiation monitoring equipment, dosimeters, accessories, and calibration sources.
- Investigate abnormal dosimetry readings and report findings to the supervisor.
- Assist in the development and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to dosimetry and instrumentation services.
Minimum Qualifications and Work Experience
- Applicants must possess a Diploma in Biomedical Engineering or Industrial Laboratory Technology obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and Access).
- High integrity and honesty personality.
- Problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent numerical skills, analytical skills and a good eye for detail.
- Flexible, result oriented and innovative thinking.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Experience needed
- Minimum of two (2) years proven relevant experience in dosimetry, instrumentation and radiation safety and security.
