Position DRIVER
Reports To HR and Admin Officer
Location Lilongwe, Malawi (frequent nationwide travel)
Contract Type Full-time, Permanent (subject to organisational funding)
Strategic Pillars Pillar 3 (Community Engagement), Pillar 5 (Operations)
Position Summary
The Driver provides safe, reliable transportation for GJU staff, beneficiaries, and materials across programme activities including mobile courts, legal clinics, paralegal support visits, and community engagements. This role requires exceptional discretion and sensitivity when transporting GBV survivors, understanding of safeguarding protocols, and willingness to travel extensively to rural areas across all regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport staff and visitors to WOJAM mobile courts, legal clinics, and paralegal support visits across 11+ locations
- Transport GBV survivors to courts, hospitals, and safe houses with utmost discretion and sensitivity
- Conduct daily vehicle checks; maintain vehicles through regular servicing
- Complete vehicle logbooks accurately; maintain fuel records and current documentation
- Support logistics including delivery of materials, documents, and programme supplies
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding and safety protocols in all field operations
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
- Valid Class C1 driver’s license with clean driving record
- Minimum 5 years’ driving experience, preferably with NGO or corporate organisation
- Defensive driving certification preferred; basic vehicle maintenance knowledge
- Professional, discreet demeanour; understanding of GBV sensitivity and confidentiality
- Excellent knowledge of Malawi road network; willingness to travel frequently to rural areas
