The Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) is a semi-subvented government parastatal established by Order, Government Notice No. 60 of 1979, under the Education Act (CAP. 30.01). MIE is mandated to design and develop curricula, conduct educational research, monitor and evaluate the national school and primary teacher education curricula, and provide continuing professional development for education personnel. The Institute also publishes and evaluates curriculum materials to ensure that education meets the present and future needs of Malawian society.

To fulfil this mandate, MIE invites applications from suitably qualified Malawian nationals for the following positions, tenable at the Malawi Institute of Education, Domasi in Zomba District:

Job title: Editor (2 Posts)
Grade: M6

Responsible to: Chief Editor

Purpose of the Job

To edit and ensure that documents produced by MIE meet required standards and quality.

Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Develop and maintain a house style manual and manuscripts specifications.
  2. Edit educational and other materials.
  3. Monitor and evaluate the editing process.
  4. Train staff and stakeholders in editorial skills.
  5. Provide advice on editorial matters.
  6. Prepare regular reports.
  7. Support resource mobilisation initiatives.
  8. Undertake any other duties as assigned by management.

Qualification and other requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Language Education, Linguistics, Communication or a related field plus at least two (2) years’ relevant experience.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience teaching language at primary, secondary or teacher training college level.
  • Experience in authoring instructional materials will be an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and outside normal working hours.
