Job Purpose
To install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and installations to ensure the safe, reliable, and uninterrupted supply of electricity to the organization’s facilities. The Electrician is responsible for ensuring all electrical works comply with applicable safety standards, electrical regulations, and organizational policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Install and repair electrical wiring, conduits, switches, sockets, circuit breakers, distribution boards, lighting systems, generators, and other electrical equipment.
- Test newly installed electrical systems before commissioning.
- Conduct routine inspections of electrical systems and equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical installations to minimize equipment failures.
- Maintain interior and exterior lighting systems.
- Diagnose electrical faults and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Respond promptly to electrical emergencies and power outages.
- Replace defective electrical components and equipment.
- Test repaired systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, regulations, and building codes.
- Ensure safe isolation of electrical systems before maintenance work.
- Promote safe electrical practices throughout the organization.
- Monitor fuel levels and coordinate generator maintenance.
- Ensure backup power systems remain operational during outages.
- Maintain records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Prepare reports on electrical faults requiring major repairs.
- Prepare requisitions for electrical supplies.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of electrical equipment and tools.
- Participate in emergency maintenance activities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Percentage of electrical faults resolved within agreed timelines.
- Electrical system uptime and reliability.
- Compliance with electrical safety standards.
- Response time to electrical emergencies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent. Maps
- Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years’ practical experience in electrical installation and maintenance.
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, or institutional electrical systems.
- Experience maintaining generators, backup power systems, and electrical control panels is an added advantage.
