To provide technical expertise pertaining to the operation and maintenance of all electrical infrastructure. These include air-conditioning, power, lighting, UPS, Solar power, building management system, lifts, fire installations and wet services in the banks building to ensure reliable and safe continuous operation thereof in accordance with statutory regulations and Standard Bank requirements.Job alerts subscription

Qualifications

Type of Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical designs, installation, testing and development. Hands-on experience with electrical systems such as power distribution, lighting, HVAC controls, UPSs, Solar system and backup generators in the financial sector, manufacturing industries, Energy and Telecommunications.
  • Proven experience in project management with strong skills in planning, budgeting, resource allocation and meeting deadlines for complex projects
  • Deep understanding of Malawi’s key electrical compliance issues as guided by MERA

  • Electrical System Maintenance and Reliability – Ensure electrical systems (lighting, power distribution, HVAC controls, backup generators) are functioning properly. Schedule preventive maintenance to avoid downtime and costly repairs
  • Project Management and Infrastructure Upgrades– Oversee electrical upgrades, renovations, or new installations. Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and vendors to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Health & Safety Compliance– Ensure all electrical work complies with MERAS approved regulations and standards. Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols to protect staff and visitors in Banks buildings.
  • Vendor management -Manage relationships with key service providers and negotiate contracts for electrical services
  • Energy Management and Sustainability – Analyses energy consumption data, identifies opportunities for efficiency improvements, and implements energy-saving technologies

  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting – Ability to diagnose electrical faults and implement corrective actions. Skilled in preventive and predictive maintenance techniques to reduce downtime.
  • Compliance & Standards – Knowledge of local electrical codes, safety regulations, and international standards (IEC, IEEE). Ensures installations meet Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) and Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) requirements.
  • Energy Management – Competence in monitoring energy consumption and implementing efficiency measures. Experience with smart meters, load management, and sustainability practices.
  • Project Management – Technical planning and execution of electrical upgrades, renovations, or new installations. Budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating contractors and suppliers.
