AHL Tobacco Sales Limited, a subsidiary of AHL Group Plc, is looking for a suitably qualified, mature and experienced candidate to take up a position of Engineering Manager tenable at AHL Tobacco Sales Head Office in Lilongwe.
Position Function
The Engineering Manager shall oversee all engineering activities of the company and align them with the company’s goals and operating standards while complying with relevant environmental, health and safety policies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities/duties will include the following:
- Technical Oversight: Ensure that all engineering works meet industry standards and company policies and are up to date with the latest technological advancements.
- Project Management: Plan, execute, and oversee engineering projects from inception to completion and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of technicians, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities to ensure the team’s success.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as Operations, Finance, Human and Administration to ensure engineering solutions support in achieving the overall business objectives.
- Environmental, Health, Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all engineering activities comply with Environmental, Health, Safety regulations and company policies while promoting a safe working environment for all employees.
- Cost Control: Ensure that all maintenance activities are done cost effectively to avoid resource wastage.
- Performance Management: Conduct periodic staff performance appraisals for effective and efficient delivery of engineering services.
- Planning and Budgeting: Timely prepare and submit budget estimates for various works and projects.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure quality service on all works and projects to avoid repetitive maintenance services.
- Any other duties assigned from time to time.
Key attributes
The applicant must have strong leadership and management skills, excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, effective communication and interpersonal skills and proficiency in engineering software and tools relevant to the industry. The candidate must have the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously, strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in engineering management, with a proven track record of successfully managing projects and teams in a busy organisation.
Professional Qualifications
Candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field). A Master’s degree or professional certification will be an added advantage.
