English (Major) & Chichewa Teacher

This teacher is responsible for developing students' proficiency in both English and Chichewa, fostering effective communication and cultural appreciation.

English (Major) Responsibilities

  • Teach Language Skills: Develop students' competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, covering grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and composition.
  • Teach Literature: Introduce students to a range of literary texts (prose, poetry, and drama) from Malawi, Africa, and around the world, developing analytical and interpretive skills.
  • Develop Writing Skills: Guide students in essay writing, creative writing, summaries, and formal correspondence, focusing on structure, style, and clarity.
  • Oral Communication: Develop effective speaking and listening skills for presentations, debates, and everyday interactions.
  • Promote a Reading Culture: Encourage independent reading and foster a love for literature through book clubs, library visits, and reading challenges.
  • Exam Preparation: Prepare students for MSCE or Cambridge examinations in English Language and Literature.

Chichewa (Secondary) Responsibilities

  • Teach Language Skills: Develop competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Chichewa, covering vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure.
  • Chichewa Literature: Introduce students to Chichewa novels, plays, poetry, and oral traditions, fostering appreciation for Malawian cultural heritage.
  • Folklore & Oral Traditions: Teach traditional stories, proverbs, riddles, and their cultural significance.
  • Creative Writing: Encourage writing in Chichewa, including stories, poems, and essays.
  • Exam Preparation: Prepare students for MSCE or Cambridge examinations in Chichewa.

General Teaching Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons catering to different learning styles and abilities.
  • Set, administer, and mark tests, assignments, and examinations, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and safe classroom environment.
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate with parents/guardians on student progress.
