The teacher is responsible for developing students' English language proficiency and their understanding of society, citizenship, and community life.
English Language Component:
- Develop Language Skills: Teach listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, building vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension.
- Literature: Introduce students to prose, poetry, and drama from Malawi, Africa, and beyond, developing analytical and interpretive skills.
- Writing Skills: Guide students in essay writing, creative writing, summaries, and formal correspondence.
- Oral Communication: Develop effective speaking and listening skills for presentations, debates, and everyday communication.
Social Studies Component:
- Teach Civic Education: Cover topics on citizenship, governance, human rights, democracy, and the structure of government in Malawi.
- Social & Cultural Studies: Explore Malawian cultures, traditions, social institutions (family, marriage, religion), and contemporary social issues.
- Map Reading: Teach basic map reading skills, including directions, symbols, and interpreting simple maps.
- Life Skills Integration: Incorporate topics on personal development, health, HIV/AIDS awareness, drug abuse prevention, and decision-making.
General Teaching Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons catering to different learning styles and abilities.
- Set, administer, and mark tests, assignments, and examinations, providing constructive feedback.
- Maintain a positive, orderly, and safe classroom environment.
- Maintain accurate student records and communicate with parents/guardians on student progress.
