Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company Limited is looking for a qualified and proactive Environment, Health, Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) Coordinator to aid in the implementation and ongoing enhancement of our EHSQ management systems at our Head Office in Lilongwe.
Reporting to the EHSQ Manager, the EHSQ Coordinator helps ensure compliance with legal and internal EHSQ requirements, reduces workplace risk, and promotes a strong safety culture across operations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the implementation of EHSQ policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Conduct risk assessments and support the development of safe operating procedures (SOPs/JSA).
- Lead/coordinate workplace inspections and safety audits; track corrective actions to closure.
- Support incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis, and drive preventive actions.
- Monitored contractor safety performance and compliance with site requirements.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including drills, training, and equipment checks.
- Support environmental compliance monitoring (waste management, spills, emissions, water use, etc.).
- Coordinate waste segregation, storage, disposal documentation, and vendor compliance activities.
- Support environmental incident reporting and corrective action.
- Promote environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives in the workplace.
- Coordinate induction training for employees, visitors, and contractors.
- Deliver toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions and maintain training records.
- Support Safety Committee meetings and compile minutes and action trackers.
- Promote hazard/near-miss reporting and positive safety behaviours across sites.
- Supports internal and external audits and regulatory inspections.
- Prepare periodic EHS performance reports (leading and lagging indicators).
- Ensure compliance with relevant EHS laws, standards, and company requirements.
Qualifications, Experience and Key Competencies
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–5 years of EHSQ experience in construction/manufacturing/mining/logistics/agriculture/energy preferred.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, incident investigation, audits, and legal compliance requirements.
- Professional certification is an added advantage (for example, NEBOSH).
- Strong communication and training facilitation skills.
- Ability to influence safe behaviour at all levels.
- Excellent reporting, documentation, and attention to detail are required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and confidence in working in a fast-paced environment.
