ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Founded in 2012, Youth and Society (YAS) is a non-profit organization mandated to promote and defend human rights and democratic governance in Malawi, with a strong focus on youth aged 10–35 and marginalized groups. ROLE OVERVIEW

YAS is seeking to recruit a qualified, committed, and results-oriented Field Officer to support the effective implementation of the piggery farming project. The Field Officer will be responsible for coordinating field-level activities, supporting youth beneficiaries, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely delivery of project outputs within the short project timeframe.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and support the implementation of all field-based project activities in Mzimba and Nkhata Bay districts.
  • Mobilize and work closely with 60 youth beneficiaries, including individuals and cooperatives.
  • Support the organization of practical trainings on piggery management, animal health, housing, feeding, and agribusiness skills.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and mentorship to youth-led piggery enterprises.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits and document progress against project outcomes.
  • Collect data, success stories, and lessons learned for reporting purposes.
  • Liaise with local stakeholders, including extension officers, local leaders, and cooperatives.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, project timelines, and YAS policies.
  • Prepare timely field reports and contribute to overall project reporting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, Rural Development, Community Development, or a related field.
  • At least 2–3 years’ practical experience working on agriculture, livestock, or youth economic empowerment projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of piggery farming practices and small-scale agribusiness models.
  • Experience working directly with youth groups, cooperatives, or community-based enterprises.
  • Strong field facilitation, community engagement, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work under a short-term, results-driven project timeframe.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within Mzimba and Nkhata Bay districts.
  • Good communication skills in English and relevant local languages.
  • High level of integrity, self-motivation, and teamwork.

Please note: The Field Officer will be based at the YAS Headquarters Office in Mzuzu.
