Background
Nexia Graham Carr invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and self-motivated professionals for the position of Finance, Tax and Client Accounting Officer.
The successful candidate will support the firm in the delivery of tax compliance, client accounting, payroll, company secretarial and related advisory services. The role requires strong technical competence, attention to detail, client service orientation and the ability to manage multiple assignments within strict deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Taxation and Statutory Compliance
- Prepare accurate tax computations and ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Compute capital allowances in accordance with the Taxation Act.
- Prepare and submit income tax returns to the Malawi Revenue Authority by the due date.
- Review MRA assessments against tax computations and reconcile any differences.
- Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, withholding tax and other statutory returns for clients.
- Follow up with MRA on assessments, queries and other tax matters.
- Remind clients of tax payment deadlines and ensure timely remittance of applicable taxes.
- Maintain proper tax records and correspondence for each client.
2. Company Secretarial Services
- Prepare and file annual returns with the Registrar of Companies within statutory deadlines.
- Carrying out company registrations.
- Conduct company searches at the Registrar of Companies as required.
- Maintain and update statutory registers, including registers of shareholders, directors and share allotments.
- Prepare and maintain board minutes, shareholder resolutions and other company secretarial documents.
- Ensure all company secretarial documents are properly filed in relevant client files.
3. Client Accounting and Payroll Services
- Maintain up-to-date accounting records for clients.
- Prepare cashbooks, bank reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Prepare payment vouchers and ensure payments are properly supported and authorised.
- Prepare client payrolls, including payslips and related statutory payroll returns.
- Support the preparation of management accounts and financial statements.
- Ensure proper filing of client accounting documents and supporting records.
- Follow up on client receivables and support timely banking of collections where applicable.
4. Client Relationship and Assignment Management
- Liaise professionally with clients, MRA, Registrar of Companies and other stakeholders.
- Manage assigned work within agreed timelines.
- Provide regular updates to supervisors and partners on assignment progress.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold high standards of professional conduct.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Taxation or a related field.
- Studying towards ACCA, ICAM or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Tax qualification or tax-related certification will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of two years’ relevant experience in accounting, taxation, client accounting or professional services.
- Good knowledge of Malawi tax laws and statutory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Experience with accounting software will be an added advantage.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good communication and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism.
