Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Finance Officer for the Malawi Country Office, based in Lilongwe. The position is a one-year contract and reports to the Finance Coordinator.

The Finance Officer will support the monitoring, reporting, and management of the Country Office’s finances and resources. The role holder will assist in maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring compliance with Save the Children’s financial policies and donor requirements, and supporting efficient financial processes across the Country Office.

Responsibilities or duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for processing payments, managing programme advances and liquidations, supporting treasury management, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, supporting payroll processes, managing fixed assets, facilitating audits, strengthening internal controls, and building the financial management capacity of staff and implementing partners.

Qualifications or requirements 

To be successful, you will bring/have:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of financial systems, internal controls, and financial management procedures.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and computerised accounting systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• A commitment to Save the Children’s vision, mission, and values.

Experience needed

• At least three years’ experience in accounting, preferably within an NGO, corporate, or audit environment.
• Experience in financial reporting, treasury management, reconciliations, and donor compliance.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder may be required to work outside the normal role profile and adjust working hours accordingly.
