Role Overview

We are seeking a high-caliber, Financial Controller to lead our finance department in Lilongwe. The core mandate of this role is to spearhead the implementation of the SAGE ERP system, with a specific focus on establishing robust inventory management and job-costing modules. The successful candidate will ensure absolute financial integrity and compliance with Malawian statutory requirements and deliver data-driven insights to drive organizational growth.

Remuneration & Benefits

Total Monthly Package: MK 3,000,000 (Gross/Cost to Company).

Benefits: Includes medical insurance for employee and dependents, matched pension contributions, and professional membership fee coverage (ICAM/ACCA).

Key Responsibilities

  • SAGE ERP Implementation: Lead the end-to-end deployment of the SAGE accounting system, including system architecture configuration, data migration, and staff capacity building to ensure a seamless operational transition.
  • Advanced Inventory Management: Design and enforce rigorous stock control protocols. Responsible for precise inventory valuation, routine physical reconciliations, and the mitigation of shrinkage or obsolescence.
  • Job Costing & Production Analysis: Implement sophisticated job-costing modules to track labor, materials, and overheads per project. Analyze variances between actuals and budgets to enhance production margins and pricing strategies.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in strict accordance with IFRS and Malawian statutory requirements.
  • Governance & Internal Controls: Establish a robust internal control framework to safeguard company assets and ensure 100% compliance with Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) regulations (VAT, PAYE, WHT).
  • Budgeting & Strategic Planning: Drive the annual budgeting process and provide high-accuracy cash flow forecasting to optimize working capital.
  • Audit & Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors; ensure timely filing of all returns with ICAM and other regulatory bodies.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certification:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional Qualification: Full professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, or CA).
  • Professional Membership: Must be a member in good standing with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM).

Experience:

  • Track Record: Minimum of 8 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or Senior Management capacity.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience in implementing or managing SAGE Evolution or Sage 200.
  • Industry Background: Prior experience in manufacturing, construction, or project-based sectors is essential.

Core Competencies:

  • Software Proficiency: (Microsoft Excel and ERP system logic)
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, IFS, and tax codes
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Budgeting & Forecasting
