Background
The Export Development Fund (EDF) is a statutory body established under the Export Development Act No. 17 of 2011. The EDF is mandated to provide financial and non-financial support to Malawian exporters to enhance their competitiveness and increase exports. The Fund is committed to promoting export-oriented investments and facilitating trade.
Role Context
The Gold Custody Officer will be responsible for the safekeeping and management of the Fund’s gold reserves, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. This role is critical in safeguarding the Fund’s assets and maintaining the integrity of its gold holdings.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the physical custody and security of the Fund’s gold reserves.
- Maintain accurate records of all gold transactions, including receipts, disbursements, and inventory.
- Conduct regular audits and reconciliations of gold holdings.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and internal policy requirements related to gold custody.
- Liaise with external custodians, auditors, and regulatory bodies as required.
- Implement and maintain robust security protocols for gold storage.
- Prepare regular reports on gold holdings and custody operations for management.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional qualifications such as CFA, ACCA, or CIMA will be an added advantage.
- Proven experience in asset management, custody services, or a related financial role.
- Strong understanding of financial markets, precious metals, and custody operations.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in relevant financial software and MS Office Suite.
Experience Needed
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role, preferably within a financial institution or a regulatory body.
