Alliance One Tobacco (Malawi) Ltd is seeking applications for the position of GREEN LEAF SERVICES LOGISTICS MANAGER

The successful applicant will lead and manage all inbound tobacco logistics within a fast-paced Agri-processing environment. This role serves to efficiently manage and oversee the receipt, grading, transportation, storage and security of tobacco bales bought from various markets, maintaining quality standards and supplying adequate blending quantities and recipes to production lines for continuous processes to satisfy customer requirements and fulfil operational targets.

Reporting to the Factory Director, key responsibilities will include the following:-

Key responsibilities

  • Manages the full inbound logistics flow of tobacco bales from sales floors and external suppliers
  • Oversees safe and efficient off-loading, reconciling, sorting, grading, stacking, and racking of tobacco bales
  • Ensures accurate segregation of grades and correct storage practices
  • Coordinates timely supply of tobacco to production according to approved blend recipes
  • Manages and controls contracted transporters, ensuring service levels, compliance, and cost control
  • Manages skill acquisitions, employee relations and Performance Management processes under Green Leaf Services and logistics including those deployed in warehousing and handling functions
  • Controls and optimises the logistics budget, including transport, handling, and storage costs
  • Ensures compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards
  • Maintains accurate stock visibility, traceability, and reporting
  • Drives continuous improvement in logistics efficiency, productivity, and cost performance

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Bachelors Degree or Relevant Tertiary studies in Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field
  • Professional Qualifications in Logistics, Warehousing, Management Sciences may be considered as an added advantage
  • Proven experience of not less than five (5) years in logistics management within a reputable FMCG or Agri-processing environment with strong operational understanding of high-volume, time-critical logistics flows
  • Experience in tobacco, agricultural commodities, or bulk raw-material logistics is desirable
  • Excellent computer skills (capable to use Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and other computer packages)
  • Data-driven and analytical capabilities, including confidence in assessing data quality and reliability, analysing information from multiple perspectives, and developing strategic and operational dashboards that transform data into actionable insights to deliver operational efficiencies.

The Person

The successful candidate must possess high level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail. The candidate must have excellent Interaction Management skills and ability to relate with a diverse group of people; capacity for Stakeholder engagement, experience in managing transport contractors and large operational teams, sound financial and budget management skills, strong planning, organisational, and leadership abilities.
