Pakachere Institute of Health and Development Communication is a leading Malawian NGO specializing in Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) and the delivery of high-impact HIV and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. The organization is committed to empowering Malawians to adopt and sustain healthy behaviours through evidence-based communication, community mobilization, and the provision of stigma-free healthcare for key and priority populations.

Job Purpose

The HIV Testing Provider (HDA) will be responsible for providing HIV testing and counselling services to key populations at Drop-in Centres and outreach clinics in accordance with national guidelines. The role also supports viral load testing services for people living with HIV (PLHIV) who are due for testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide client-centred HIV risk reduction counselling
  • Conduct HIV testing and counselling services in line with national guidelines
  • Deliver HIV prevention and testing health talks to female sex workers (FSWs) at hotspots and Drop-in Centres
  • Ensure confidentiality and safe storage of all client records and data
  • Support outreach workers to follow up FSWs who test HIV positive for linkage to care and treatment
  • Follow up HIV-negative clients with appropriate prevention packages and repeat testing when required
  • Submit monthly and ad-hoc reports to the DIC Manager
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for HIV rapid test kits
  • Support timely re-ordering of HIV test kits to avoid stock-outs
  • Conduct quality control (QC) procedures for HIV testing
  • Abide by organizational and donor confidentiality policies
  • Support outreach clinics at hotspot level and facilitate referrals to ART, PMTCT, and other relevant services
  • Develop and implement monthly work plans aligned with the DIC work plan

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant post-secondary education
  • Certified HTS Counsellor
  • At least one (1) year practical experience as an HTS Counsellor in a busy environment
  • Successfully completed HTS training approved by the Ministry of Health
  • Basic knowledge and terminology related to HIV/AIDS
  • Understanding of HIV testing, prevention, and treatment services
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Basic data entry skills
  • Working knowledge of online data collection tools (ODK, Kobo, SurveyCTO) and scan forms
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Bilingual in Chichewa and English (preferred)
