Job Summary
The Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced Head Mechanic to oversee the maintenance and repair of its vehicle fleet. The Head Mechanic will be responsible for ensuring the fleet is in optimal working condition, managing a team of mechanics, and maintaining a safe and efficient workshop environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in vehicles.
- Perform routine maintenance and servicing of vehicles.
- Manage spare parts inventory and procurement.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and workshop standards.
- Train and mentor junior mechanics.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a Diploma in Automotive Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience as a mechanic, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicles (e.g., sedans, SUVs, light trucks).
- Knowledge of automotive systems, including engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage a team and delegate tasks effectively.
- Valid driver's license.
