Position Summary – Head of Operations

The Head of Operations is a senior management role responsible for leading and coordinating MIA’s non-academic functions, including finance, HR, administration, procurement, ICT, and compliance. Reporting to the President/Vice President and working closely with the Principal, the role will strengthen internal systems, improve accountability, and ensure that operational functions run efficiently and in full compliance with Malawian laws and institutional policies. This is a hands-on leadership position suited to an experienced manager who can build systems, manage multidisciplinary teams, and drive operational improvement in a structured and practical manner.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, or related field.
  • 8–10 years’ experience in operations, finance, administration, or general management.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership or managerial role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of financial management and organizational systems.

Desirable

  • Professional qualification (e.g. ACCA, CPA, MBA).
  • Experience in education, NGO, or donor-funded environments.
  • Familiarity with Malawian labour law and procurement standards.
