About us

Ignite Energy Access is an Abu Dhabi-based leader in distributed renewable energy solutions, dedicated to providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity to underserved communities across Africa. Now operating across 12 countries and serving over 15 million people. Through innovative technology, scalable business models, and impact-driven financing, Ignite is transforming lives, fostering economic growth, and driving the continent’s clean energy transition.

Why join us – and why now

This is one of the fastest-scaling energy access platforms in Africa – and one of the most active corporate finance teams on the continent. Following a transformational acquisition, we are running multiple DFI and impact fundraising processes in parallel (including with the IFC and leading global impact investors), executing an active M&A pipeline, and building a commercial & industrial (C&I) solar financing platform – all at the same time. The capital this role raises will directly power millions of new connections. In return, we offer something few banks or funds can: your own mandate. You will lead transactions end-to-end – not support someone else’s – with direct access to CEO- and Board-level decision-making and the chance to shape how a pan-African platform is capitalised. We are looking for an autonomous, diligent, well organised problem-solver with significant transaction experience – someone who sees a frontier-market scale-up as an adventure.

Job Purpose/Mission

The Human Resource Officer will ensure that people practices align with business objectives while promoting employee wellbeing, compliance, operational excellence, and a culture of accountability, innovation, safety, and sustainability. The role will provide professional HR support across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, compensation and benefits administration, HR compliance, and organizational culture. The HR Officer will help create an inclusive, high-performance, and values-driven workplace that supports sustainable business growth

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate end-to-end recruitment and onboarding processes to attract, hire, and retain talent while supporting workforce planning initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary HR contact for employees, supporting employee relations, engagement, wellness, and workplace culture initiatives.
  • Administer performance management processes, including appraisal cycles, performance improvement plans, and employee development activities.
  • Support payroll, compensation, benefits, leave administration, and employee rewards processes while maintaining accurate employee records.
  • Maintain HR records, databases, contracts, and documentation, ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Prepare HR reports and workforce analytics to support decision-making and organizational planning.
  • Ensure compliance with Malawi labour laws, statutory requirements, company policies, and ethical standards.
  • Support the development, implementation, and review of HR policies, procedures, and compliance initiatives.
  • Promote occupational health, safety, and employee wellbeing programs across the organization.
  • Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to foster a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture.

Required Experience & Qualifications Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Professional HR certification and/or membership with a recognized HR professional body.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ progressive experience in Human Resources, preferably within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Malawi Labour Laws, employment regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Experience supporting key HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, and HR compliance.

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and record management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills.
