We are hiring on behalf of our client in transportation and logistics who is expanding its workshop and fleet crew in Lilongwe.
Hydraulic Mechanic
Job Purpose
To diagnose, repair, service and maintain hydraulic systems fitted to heavy vehicles and equipment, ensuring reliable, safe and efficient operation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose hydraulic system faults on heavy trucks and commercial vehicles.
- Inspect hydraulic pumps, rams/cylinders, valves, hoses, fittings and related components.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic pressure, leakage and performance problems.
- Repair, replace and rebuild hydraulic components where required.
- Test hydraulic systems after repairs to confirm proper operation.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on hydraulic systems.
- Inspect hydraulic hoses and connections for wear, damage and leaks.
- Read and interpret hydraulic diagrams and system specifications.
- Identify root causes of recurring hydraulic failures.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs and parts used.
- Work closely with truck mechanics and auto electricians when faults involve multiple vehicle systems.
- Ensure hydraulic fluids are handled, stored and disposed of safely.
- Maintain workshop tools and equipment in good condition.
- Follow workshop health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Report major faults and repair requirements to the Workshop Supervisor.
- Support emergency breakdown and roadside-repair activities where required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related technical field.
- Significant hands-on experience repairing hydraulic systems on heavy vehicles.
- Strong experience with hydraulic pumps, rams/cylinders and valves.
- Ability to diagnose faults using appropriate testing equipment.

- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good understanding of heavy-vehicle systems.
