Background

Ensure the effective provision of support, configuration, operation, and maintenance of the organization’s IT infrastructure, including Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), servers, computers, storage systems (NAS/SAN), and associated operating environments. The role is responsible for maintaining system availability, performance, and security while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and global security policies.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Infrastructure and Helpdesk Manager, the IT Infrastructure Officer, will be required to carry out the following duties:

  • Ensure the availability, performance, and secure operation of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), including network equipment and connectivity services.
  • Maintain, administer, and support computers, servers, and related computing environments, including NAS, SAN, operating systems, administrative systems, and associated configurations.
  • Carry out the daily data backups of all Applications and make sure that the backup register is updated for every backup taken
  • Provide user support for all IT systems including monitoring and tuning the performance of system and auxiliary equipment, training of users on system applications; troubleshooting on basic problems related to hardware and software.
  • Conduct regular software audits and make sure that no user terminal is running unwarranted software as recommended or approved by Castel Malawi IT Operating Model.
  • Implement, maintain, and enforce system and network-related policies in line with organizational standards and global security requirements.
  • Suggest and produce training materials for in-house training and review the progress of trainees with relevant authorities.
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, monitoring, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.

Qualifications

The ideal candidates should have at least the following qualifications and experience:

  • University Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role in a busy environment preferably in an FMCG Industry.

Key Competencies

  • Good knowledge of Windows and Linux based systems.
  • Good knowledge of virtualization.
  • Knowledge and experience with ITIL.
  • Knowledge of Network routing and switching principles.
  • Ability to understand and improve LAN/WAN technologies.
