Background
The National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi (NONM) is a professional organization, non-governmental organization, and trade union representing the interests of nurses and midwives across Malawi. With a membership of over 10,000 and its presence in all 29 districts, NONM serves as the official voice for over 18,000 nursing/midwifery professionals in the country.NONM is currently seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive Intern (Administration and Finance) to join the secretariat for a period of three (3) months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide support across both the Administrative and Finance departments. Primary duties include:
- Administrative Support: Assisting in day-to-day office management, maintaining filing systems, coordinating meetings, and handling general correspondence.
- Financial Assistance: Supporting the finance team with data entry, processing payment vouchers, managing petty cash, and assisting in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
- Resource Management: Assisting in the procurement of office supplies and maintaining an updated inventory of organizational assets.
- Documentation: Ensuring all financial and administrative records are accurately captured and easily retrievable for audit purposes.
Qualifications and Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following criteria:
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (majoring in Finance or Human Resources Management). Candidates with a major in Human Resource must demonstrate strong accounting knowledge. Alternatively, a Diploma in Accounting from a recognized institution.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word are essential). Strong numerical skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Attributes: High level of integrity, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a willingness to learn within a trade union/NGO setting.
