Job Overview
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Laboratory Technician – Environmental Engineering.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching, research, and outreach activities within the Faculty of Agriculture. The position involves managing laboratory operations, maintaining equipment, supporting practical sessions, ensuring compliance with laboratory safety standards, and providing technical support to academic staff and students.
- Assist academic staff in preparing and delivering laboratory practicals and demonstrations.
- Support the design and implementation of research and consultancy projects.
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
- Guide students on the proper use of laboratory equipment and technical procedures.
- Support workshops, field practicals, and research activities.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory chemicals, consumables, equipment, and supplies.
- Prepare procurement requests and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Operate laboratory equipment used in Environmental Engineering.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure equipment is calibrated, functional, and compliant with safety standards.
- Collect and analyze laboratory samples.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and research data.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory quality assurance procedures.
- Conduct laboratory safety inspections and enforce health and safety regulations.
- Promote safe laboratory practices among students and staff.
- Support departmental laboratory administration and record management.
- Collaborate with academic staff and external stakeholders where required.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Experience in laboratory testing, research data management, and statistical tools.
- Experience conducting experiments while maintaining laboratory quality standards.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- High levels of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to laboratory safety.
- A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field from a recognized university with at least a Credit.
- A Master's degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage.
