KUHeS is inviting applications from suitably qualified and motivated individuals to fill the following position:

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

POSITION SUMMARY

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct themselves in all matters relating to their employment in accordance with best practice and relevant ethical and professional standards and guidelines as determined by the Medical Council of Malawi.

CONTRACT DURATION

The successful candidate will be offered a two-year contract, subject to renewal upon satisfactory performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will, among other duties:

• Collect and prepare patients’ specimens.
• Perform routine laboratory tests in accordance with detailed instructions and established procedures.
• Set up and clean laboratory equipment.
• Disinfect laboratory equipment and wares.
• Maintain general cleanliness and hygiene within the laboratory.
• Collect, process and store biological samples appropriately.
• Conduct relevant laboratory assays and ensure proper documentation of results and record keeping.
• Ensure the timely ordering of laboratory consumables.
• Support the supervision of laboratory students.
• Carry out other duties related to the position as may reasonably be requested by Clinic Management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

Applicants must have:

• A Diploma in Laboratory Technology.
• A Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Services (Honours) will be an added advantage.
• At least three years of experience in a busy working environment.
• Training in Customer Care.
• Willingness to work during odd hours.
• A high level of integrity.

Level of Education: associate degree
