Background
Blantyre Water Board is a government-owned institution established and reconstituted under the Waterworks Act of 1995 to supply potable water to people of Blantyre City and other surrounding areas. The Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the vacant position of Legal Manager.
Responsibilities
- Representing the Board in suits by or against the Board
- Providing Management with legal opinion or advice
- Drafting and solidifying agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure that the Board’s full legal rights are protected
- Assisting the Board in collecting debts from Board’s debtors and where necessary taking legal action on defaulters
- Collaborating with Management to devise efficient defence strategies
- Researching and evaluating different legal risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
- Applying effective legal risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues
- Providing clarification on legal language or specifications to Staff
- Maintaining current knowledge of alterations in laws and legislation
- Performing such other lawful duties as may be reasonably assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in law obtained from an accredited institution
- Must have a valid annual legal practitioner’s license
- Minimum of 5 years of proven post-admission work experience
- Proven experience as a legal officer in a business environment
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures
- Full comprehension of the influences of the external legal environment of an organization
- Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies
- High degree of professional ethics and integrity
- Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information
- Outstanding communication skills.
