The Position
Reporting to the University Librarian, the Library Assistant will be primarily responsible for maintaining and supporting the library’s computer systems, hardware, software and online presence. The person will also assist with other library duties like circulation, reference, and collection management.
Responsibilities or duties
- Oversee and maintain the library’s computer systems, including hardware and software.
- The person will also administer other university systems and the University website
- Manage and administer library software, such as koha and Dspace integrated library systems
- Update library databases and ensure proper functioning of software and hardware.
- Manage the library’s online presence (Website) and social media accounts.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies to support library services.
- Assist users with navigating library catalogues, databases, and online resources.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for library users.
- Assist with collection development and technical services, such as processing new materials.
- Assist with circulation, reference, and other general library duties.
- Provide assistance with Artificial Intelligence use
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- A Diploma in ICT or a related field, those with a Diploma in Library and Information Science and Blased towards IT will also be considered.
- Primary & Secondary Schooling (K-12)
- Proficient in computer systems, software, and databases.
- Working knowledge of HTML, XML, Java, JavaScript, CSS, PHP, MySQL, etc. is preferred
Experience needed
- At least two years professional experience in a busy Academic Library-Team player with excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Hands-on experience in computer programming, web application development, and understanding of Linux server configurations and networking is advantageous;
Any other provided details (e.g., benefits, work environment, team info, or additional notes)
- Willingness to work with people having mental health problems.
- Strict adherence to the organization’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy
