Organization Overview:
K&G Engineering and Services operates in civil construction, petroleum infrastructure development, tank installations, pipework, pump island construction, and related engineering services. The company requires competent Light Cargo Vehicle Drivers to ensure safe, timely, and efficient transport of personnel, materials, and equipment in support of project execution.
Position Purpose:
The Light Cargo Vehicle Driver is responsible for safely operating company vehicles to transport personnel, tools, materials, and equipment to and from project sites. The role ensures vehicles are maintained in good condition, operated responsibly, and driven in compliance with road safety and organizational standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Vehicle Operation
- Safely drive company light cargo vehicles (pickup trucks, vans, and staff cars).
- Transport personnel, equipment, and materials to project sites on schedule.
- Plan routes efficiently to avoid delays and minimize travel risks.
- Ensure safe loading and unloading of materials.
- Assist in minor vehicle-related tasks during project operations, such as moving light equipment.
Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance
- Conduct pre-trip inspections, including brakes, lights, tyres, fuel, and engine oil.
- Report mechanical faults or damages immediately.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of vehicles.
- Record mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance logs accurately.
- Coordinate with the workshop for scheduled maintenance or servicing.
Safety & Compliance
- Comply with all traffic laws and road safety regulations.
- Drive cautiously around active project sites, especially near fuel tanks and machinery.
- Use seatbelts and ensure all passengers adhere to safety protocols.
- Avoid overloading or misusing company vehicles.
- Immediately report any accidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions.
Site Coordination
- Coordinate with site teams to ensure timely pick-up and drop-off of personnel and materials.
- Support operations by assisting with minor site tasks when required (e.g., guiding vehicles, assisting in deliveries).
- Minimize disruption to ongoing fuel station or construction operations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily vehicle logbooks, including mileage, fuel usage, and destinations.
- Report vehicle-related incidents or breakdowns promptly.
- Assist in vehicle handover documentation between shifts.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum Requirements
- MSCE (Malawi School Certificate of Education) or equivalent.
- Valid Malawi Driver’s License for Vehicles (Class C1 or equivalent).
- Defensive driving or professional driving training is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 5 – 8 years’ experience driving 5 tons vehicles in a professional or construction environment.
- Experience in transporting personnel and materials to active project sites is preferred.
- Familiarity with Malawi road networks and project site protocols is an advantage.
