Job Purpose
The Loan Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the loan processing and recovery functions to ensure efficient service delivery, portfolio quality, and compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. The role supervises loan officers and ensures that lending activities contribute to the institution’s financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Loan Processing & Approval Oversight
- Review and verify loan applications to ensure completeness and compliance with credit policies
- Recommend loan approvals within delegated authority levels
- Ensure timely disbursement of approved loans
2. Portfolio Management
- Monitor loan portfolio performance, including PAR (Portfolio at Risk)
- Ensure proper loan utilization through field visits and monitoring
- Implement strategies to maintain portfolio quality
3. Loan Recovery & Collections
- Supervise recovery efforts on delinquent loans
- Develop and implement recovery plans for non-performing loans
- Ensure timely follow-up and collection of repayments
4. Team Supervision
- Supervise and support Loan Officers in their daily activities
- Set performance targets and conduct regular appraisals
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and training to staff
5. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare regular reports on loan performance and recovery status
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date loan records
- Maintain proper documentation for audit and compliance purposes
6. Risk & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements
- Identify potential risks and recommend mitigation measures
- Support internal and external audits
7. Customer Relationship Management
- Maintain good relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Address client complaints and resolve issues promptly
- Promote the institution’s loan products
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, or related field
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in lending or microfinance, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role
- Strong understanding of credit risk management and loan appraisal techniques
