About the Assignment:
A start-up service business is conducting a market survey in Lilongwe to assess demand for convenience-based services. We are seeking a dedicated and results-driven individual to support data collection and basic analysis within a two-week period.
Position Overview:
The Market Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting field surveys, collecting accurate data, and supporting basic monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes to ensure data quality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct surveys and interviews with selected respondents across Lilongwe
- Accurately capture and record responses using provided tools
- Ensure completeness and consistency of collected data
- Provide daily progress updates and field reports
- Support basic data verification and validation processes
- Assist in organizing data for analysis and reporting
Qualifications & Education:
- Minimum of a Diploma in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Statistics, or a related field
- Training or coursework in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Research Methods, or Data Management will be an added advantage
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage respondents professionally and confidently
- Basic understanding of data collection methods and survey techniques
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation principles (data quality, accuracy, consistency)
- Good analytical and organizational skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
- Familiarity with Lilongwe areas and communities
Data Collection & Analysis Tools (Required)
- Knowledge of mobile data collection tools (e.g., Google Forms, KoboToolbox, or ODK)
- Advanced knowledge of statistical tools or software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, or Excel) is an added advantage
Experience:
- Previous experience in market research, surveys, or data collection is preferred
Other Requirements:
- Must have access to a smartphone
- Must be available full-time for the duration of the assignment
- Ability to move around Lilongwe for fieldwork
