PATH seeks a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Technical Officer for the United States Government (USG)-funded “Reaching every at-risk community and household with malaria services” (REACH Malaria) global project. REACH aims to provide implementation support services and technical assistance to countries to accelerate progress in comprehensive delivery of facility and community-based malaria services, including malaria case management, prevention of malaria in pregnancy (MiP), malaria diagnostics, community health, data collection and use for service delivery, and other malaria prevention interventions. Additionally, PMI Malaria REACH in Malawi will support MCH activities at national, facility and community levels, and will predominantly target selected health facilities in selected districts with poor MCH indicators.
The MCH Technical Officer will report to the MCH Technical Advisor and will be responsible for ensuring that MCH responses in the project are supported with quality technical inputs, drawing upon Malawi’s health and MCH strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead in program coordination and implementation at district, sub-district and community level.
- Participate in development and implementation of work plan and budget.
- Implementing and monitoring of work plans, budgets, and reporting.
- Coordinate technical assistance for program implementation.
- Assist the MCH Technical Advisor in the design implementation, monitoring, and assessment of activities.
- Assist in the development of new program approaches that are linked to related services.
- Work with REACH and PATH consultants to implement training, supportive supervision services, and programs.
- Maintain partnerships on behalf of REACH with District Health Management teams, donors, and other partners.
- Support documentation and dissemination of best practices and lessons learn.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, reproductive health, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, epidemiology, medical or related field.
- Possess strong MCH Knowledge and training skills, particularly in the areas of Health and MCH programming.
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience, particularly in the areas of Health and MCH programming.
- Experience working with Ministry of Health personnel and good knowledge of health systems and programs.
- A demonstrated track record of providing mentorship and supervision for strengthening healthcare services; training in quality improvement approaches; Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to facilitate program implementation.
- Computer skills, including demonstrated hands-on-experience with MS Suite-Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Knowledge (functional or technical)
- Basic understanding of MCH and health related issues, with a national focus is necessary.
- Excellent understanding of USG programs.
- Excellent verbal, written, communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of civil society organizations/ NGOs/CBOs capacity assessment and building is an added value.
- Possess up-to-date knowledge, skills and attitude and can impart this to others.
