JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mine Surveyor to join our team at Mchenga Coal Mine Limited. The Mine Surveyor will be responsible for planning, directing, and ensuring that all survey activities related to underground development, stopes, coal reserve areas, and the preparation of plans and sections are carried out efficiently and in conformity with specifications and professional standards. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and supports mining operations with accurate survey data.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, direct, and oversee all survey activities related to coal reserves, ensuring accurate plans and sections are prepared in accordance with internationally recognized standards.
  • Use available survey instruments to check and verify contour levels to maintain accuracy in underground mine development operations.
  • Carry out mine development planning, coal seam mapping, coal pillar sizing, and faulting identification.
  • Assign and supervise survey work, including aligning cross-cuts and drives according to planning department layouts.
  • Conduct reconnaissance to identify coal outcropping, trenching, and resources estimation, and advise management on exploration projects to extend confirmed resources.
  • Identify areas of the concession where new mine working areas can be developed.
  • Ensure mine layouts, developments, and exploration projects comply with The Mines and Minerals Act (Law No.25/2023).
  • Use survey data to calculate monthly coal production tonnage for reconciliation.
  • Submit updated plans and sections of coal development areas monthly, quarterly, and annually to senior management.
  • Promote a safety-first culture within the Survey Department and ensure compliance with all safety rules and company policies.
  • Assist in training and developing team members to improve their skills and efficiency.
  • Ensure the survey team maintains accuracy and professionalism in all tasks.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor to support coal production efficiency and operational success.

ATTRIBUTES

  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Mining Engineering or any other related field, with a minimum of seven (7) years underground mine surveying experience.
  • Professional qualifications in surveying or mining will be an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of survey instruments, mine planning, and mapping techniques.
  • In-depth understanding of The Mines and Minerals Act (Law No.25/2023) and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Integrity and ethical behavior, demonstrating a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
